The influence area of the Port of Ensenada in Mexico, cover the States of Baja California, South Baja, Sonora and Chihuahua, while in the United States hits Southern California and Arizona, there are more than 1,400 "maquiladoras" (assembly plants), as well as 1,114 producers and exporters established in Mexico.
The multiple vocation of the Port of Ensenada is maintained by the various activities carried out in the area of influence. These include industrial activities of containers, general cargo, commercial fishing, cruise ships, marinas, sport fishing, and any other tourist activity; in addition to specialized shipyards and to the handling of mineral bulk.
In relation to the loading area, these Mexican States have high economic dynamism as a whole, between 2000 and 2004 managed to capture the $9,367.2 million dollars in Foreign Direct Investment, which accounted for 10.4% of the total received by the country in relation to Employment involved with the 8.3%; account for 8.2% of the population, account for 10.3% of Gross Domestic Product, being home to 38.9% of the "maquiladora" (assembly plant) in the country.

Additionally, the area of influence, homes the ports of El Sauzal, San Felipe and Rosarito in Baja California as well as Guerrero Negro, Santa Rosalía, San Carlos and Pichilingue in South Baja California, all these ports with different vocations, being fishing and hydrocarbons the most important activities.
The Port of Ensenada is located on the Pacific Rim, area where the major International trade interchange dynamism takes place, its strategic location Northwest Mexico gives the port the opportunity to access the major ports and production centers thus connecting 64 ports from 28 countries.
The maritime connectivity of the Port is related to the participation of regular shipping lines connected by charter cargo freight, being the most far-reaching the containerization service on Ports and Countries.
The exports are sent out directly to Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia in Asia; Costa Rica, Honduras and Chile in Central America; France, Italy and Spain in Europe; Morocco and Algeria in Africa. Importations come mainly from countries in Asia, Nicaragua in Central America and New Zealand in Oceania. The major dynamism is in Asia, due to the trade Exchange in the assembling (maquiladora) industry.
