September 17, 1542, Discovery of the Bay, now known as Port of Ensenada, by Captain Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo during an expedition he was leading by instructions from the Viceroy of New Spain. Originally, Ensenada was known as San Mateo.

1602, The Navigator Sebastián Vizcaíno named it "Ensenada de Todos Santos", due to his arrival to the Bay on November 1st., (known as the "Day of all Saints")

1824, People began to settle in Todos Santos Bay which is now known as City of Ensenada.

1877, The port is officially open to trade, such as provisions and Tools and equipment and coming from inland and some importations from East Europe.

May 15, 1882.- official foundation of the port named "Head of the North Party Frontier City Hall".

August 9, 1886, the port is awarded the category as Main Seaport.

December 1º, 1919, concession for the construction of the pier is granted.

During the decades of the twenties and thirties, there was a flow of U.S. vessels that took advantage of the proximity of Ensenada to avoid the Law of Prohibition.

January 16 1952, creation of the municipality of Ensenada, with a surface of 51,952 Square kilometers.

Fishing was the main activity during 1950 thru 1980 in Ensenada.

In 1990, container activity started at the Port.

In 1991, the change on dimension of container vessels refrained them from arriving to Ensenada.

In 1993,the tuna embargo imposed by the United States depressed the catch. However in those years the arrival of cruise ships began developing a major tourist activity in Ensenada.

Early in 1994, with the enactment of the Port Law, the creation of APIS and the concession for the use and exploitation of property and the provision of port services granted by SCT on June 30, with a new promoting approach, the Port of Ensenada begins its modernization, dealing with the international maritime trade and at the same time keeping its multiple vocation.
